What Separates a Medical Facial From a Spa Facial

A spa facial is built to relax you. A medical facial treatment is built to change something you can see, such as clogged pores, rough texture, dehydration, or uneven tone, and it is performed inside a medical practice with a Medical Director overseeing clinical care.

Here, that starts with the products. Our aestheticians use medical-grade lines from ZO Skin Health, Obagi, HydroPeptide, and ClearChoice, and the products you take home match the skin they just treated. A facial can also fit into the same plan as clinical care at our medical spa in Tampa, such as chemical peels or medical microneedling, and your clinician confirms which combinations are safe before anything is booked.

Our Medical Facial Menu

Our aestheticians perform every facial below at one location, alongside the rest of our medical spa treatments, so switching to a different facial as your skin changes only takes a conversation.

The Geneo Oxygen Facial gives an instant glow that lasts up to seven days, which is why clients often book it the same week as a wedding or reunion. Two body treatments round out the menu: the Booty Facial for breakouts on the buttocks and the Vajacial for ingrown hairs and irritation along the bikini line.

How Tampa's Wet and Dry Seasons Change Your Facial

Skin here goes through two climates every year. The National Weather Service puts the local rainy season at roughly May 25 to October 10, and those months bring most of the area's annual rain. Heat and damp air keep oil and sunscreen in the pores, which is why we lean on deep-cleansing facials through summer.

Then the air dries out. The Tampa Water Department draws mainly from the Hillsborough River, and its water quality report has put average hardness at about 11 grains per gallon, which counts as hard water. A University of Sheffield study found that washing in hard water can leave more cleanser residue on the skin, which may increase dryness and irritation. For clients on City of Tampa water, that is one reason skin can feel tight after rinsing.

  • Rainy season, late May to early October. The Deep Pore Facial or Medispa Facial clears buildup, and the Geneo Oxygen Facial suits skin that is congested but reactive.
  • The October turn. A Medispa Facial clears what summer left behind while your aesthetician revisits your home care for the drier months.
  • Dry season, November into spring. The DMAE Power Facial and Geneo Oxygen Facial restore moisture, and stronger resurfacing moves into these cooler months.

Your First Visit, Step by Step

Your first appointment begins with a consultation, not a treatment. We assess your skin and talk through your goals and budget, and most first visits end with a written plan and pricing.

The facial itself follows that plan and is customized to your skin by the aesthetician performing it. Before you leave, you get product advice for the skin we just treated, and we revisit the routine as the seasons change.

Facials often run as a series of four to six visits. Monthly memberships cover facials at member rates, and financing is available.

Who Performs Your Facial

Fusion Medispa has worked from the same Gunn Highway address since February 2004. Medical Director Dr. Jorge Leal oversees clinical practice, a Physician Assistant and an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner assess every injectable plan, and every clinician here is licensed by the State of Florida.

Facials are performed by aestheticians with more than 20 years of experience, and our aesthetician Macu is named in our Google reviews. The practice holds a 4.9-star Google rating across 166 reviews, and results from our own patients are in our before-and-after gallery.

Medical Facial - Tampa, FL FAQ

Is Fusion Medispa inside Tampa city limits?

No. Our office is at 8731 Gunn Hwy in Odessa, inside The Village Shoppes of Keystone on the Hillsborough County side of Gunn Highway, so we share a county with Tampa. The drive from most of the city takes 20 to 30 minutes, Westchase and Carrollwood are roughly 20 minutes away, and Citrus Park Town Center is 1.5 miles south.

How is a medical facial different from a regular facial?

A regular facial focuses on relaxation and surface cleansing. A medical facial uses medical-grade products, targets a specific concern such as congestion or dehydration, and is performed in a medical practice overseen by a Medical Director, so it can be planned alongside chemical peels, microneedling, or injectables when your skin needs more than a facial alone.

Which facial should I book during Tampa's rainy season?

From late May into early October, heat and humidity tend to congest pores, so we often start with the Deep Pore Facial or the Medispa Facial. If your skin is congested but also sensitive, the Geneo Oxygen Facial clears and hydrates, typically without the redness of harsher resurfacing. Your consultation settles the choice.

Does Tampa's hard water affect my skin between facials?

It can. City of Tampa tap water is hard, and hard water can leave cleanser residue that may dry and irritate skin. A gentle cleanser, a thorough rinse, and a moisturizer chosen by your aesthetician help at home, and a DMAE Power Facial or Geneo Oxygen Facial restores moisture at your next visit.

How often should I get a medical facial?

Facials often run as a series of four to six visits before you settle into regular maintenance. Monthly memberships make that steady schedule simpler and cover facials at member rates. Your aesthetician sets the spacing at your consultation based on your skin and the season.
